How to Raise Money Selling Products at School and Charity Fundraisers

Raising money for a good cause, whether it be for a local school, hospice or other charity, can be a daunting but exciting task! It's a big responsibility, and might seem a little scary at first, but it's extremely rewarding knowing that your efforts are making a real difference in the community. And most importantly, as the pennies begin to add up and pounds start flowing in, all your fundraising efforts will have been worthwhile when you stand back and look at the end result.

But how do you get there? Non-uniform days and bucket collections are obviously the tried and tested favourites, but there are definitely limits to the number of times you can do them, and definitely limits on how much money they'll raise.

The main problem though, is that people will only give so much to their school, PTA, or to a charity, hence limiting the amount you can raise... and that's where you need to be a little cunning. As much as everybody should be pleased to fund a good cause, the fact is that non-uniform days and bucket collections don't really give people anything in return. However, selling products can be a fantastic way to make people feel good about themselves for helping the cause, but at the same time, they are not made to feel that they are just giving more and more money away... and that's because they're not, they're actually gaining something in return. Stock fun and interesting products at your fundraiser and people will keep buying, without feeling like they're only giving!

Selling products can actually make for a really fun event too. If you're fundraising for a PTFA, why not make an evening of it? You could run an evening fayre, with little market stalls... you could sell products that you've sourced yourself and even allow local businesses to buy a pitch in the school hall if they want. You could combine the fair with the classic bucket method with rattlers and shakers on the doors, maybe even draw the parents in by having the children sing some hymns or songs as a choir in the middle of the fair? You could not only sell physical gift type products but you could have a table that functions as a cake sale too!

So now you're halfway there. Now comes the hardest part... what products do you sell to raise money, and where can you find reliable suppliers to source them from? Well, luckily you're already in the perfect place.

Sparks Gift Wholesalers specialises in selling a huge variety of quality gifts to retailers and traders throughout the UK, across Europe, and to destinations all over the world. We have rock-bottom wholesale prices on all our gift products, which means healthy margins, which means more money raised! Based in Kent in the South-East of England, we're a family run business with a long history of supplying PTFAs, Hospices and Charities right here in the UK.

We sell a wide variety of products perfect for school or charity fundraisers, including general gifts, mugs, toys, games, stationary, candles, ladies gifts, christmas decorations, novelties, homewares, and much more! In fact, we've got over 3000 products in stock at any one time, all at incredibly low trade prices. For example, you can expect to buy a gift boxed china mug for around £1.40-£1.85, which will likely sell at a fundraiser event for around £4-6, meaning you bag a profit of between two and three times your cost.

Buying wholesale gifts for resale is a fantastic way to make money, but now that you've found a great supplier, what kind of products should you buy?

School PTFAs and Charities that we have supplied in the past tend to focus on a few particular areas, but of course that doesn't mean that other products don't also sell. The sure-fire favourites have to be Mugs, Stationary, Children's Gifts, Money Banks, Novelties, Candles, Games, Christmas Decorations and Homewares!! Take these categories as a rough guide to begin with... it's hard to go wrong.
